I think mine are getting worse! I remember when I used to wake up 7am (this is a sleep in for me) fresh as a daisy.. Well, not anymore…
I wonder if it’s because I’m drinking less. My liver isn’t expecting it like it used to hah horrible I know hahah. I’m definitely not getting as drunk as often but I’m suffering for my sins.
I might have had only one and a half bottles of wine this Saturday night, but by Sunday morning I felt like I was dying. As fun as Saturday was it makes me wonder if it’s worth it. I’ve blogged about dieting and about wanting to step up my skating before. Hangovers wont help! I can’t stand being out of action!
I woke up 6ish Sunday morning soaked in sweat. Actually dripping off me! I thought WTF and got up to have a shower. It was such an effort to get up and to the shower I ended up just sitting in it until the water went cold. I had the shakes, I felt so fragile and weak. I threw up a couple times then thought I’d try eating to get something in my stomach. I made porridge which again was SUCH an effort. I’d lie down for a second, stomach going crazy, then I’d have to get up to throw up. I’d get cold sweats then fever and ahhh the migraine. I get headaches sometimes but not migraines like after drinking. It blurred my vision and made everything worse. Are your hangovers this bad?! I could hardly string a sentence together I couldn’t even look out the window it was too bright out. It was tough. It wasn’t fun!
I drank about three bottles of water then had to go to skating training feeling like a piece of shit. Even though I was clean I was paranoid I smelt like sav blanc. Haha. I did feel a bit better after skating but by that time it was 4pm. That’s a half day written off. There was so much more I wanted to get done too. Grr argh
Maybe it’s because I’m getting older. I only have one big night about once a month.
I goggled hangover cures and the search came up with so many contradicting theories. I thought common sense was:
- Drink lots of water and sports drinks
- Try “hair of the dog”. A bloody mary for example. It doesn’t have to be what you drank last night “the dog that bite you” if you weren’t drinking vodka that’s fine while your blood is dealing with the new alcohol it will ignore the old. Tomato juice and celery are full of vitamins.
- Switch between hot and cold in the shower.
- Exercise, if you can face it.
- Take pain killers
- Sleep.
Do you know any tricks? I never remember to drink berrocca or anything before bed.
I don’t think I’ll drink again until my boyfriends 30th at the end of October. Apart from the occasional glass of wine of course. This makes life easier
but no boozy benders. I don’t enjoy it.
I’m nowhere near as out of control as I used to be, but funny thing is I’m suffering more now from 6 drinks then when I’d drink an entire bottle of whiskey.
If you’re wondering why I drank 6 glasses of wine. Trying singing kareoke sober. Hah

Hmm, I find that certain kinds of liquor have different effects on me. Wine usually does nothing, the hard stuff like 151 will give me the shakes & nausea like you describe, as will certain kinds of beer…
Try drinking a glass of milk before you drink. It coats your stomach, which can help prevent nausea.
usually you feel like crap from drinking because you’re dehydrated. drink a powerade and then lots of water. i know you cant eat bacon, but i’ve read a few studies that say bacon is good for hangovers. is there a vegan option like bacon? maybe try cheese and tomato on toast?
did you seriously get that hung over from 6 glasses of wine?
Chocolate soy milk. Mmm. Hehe! Fried foods are good too Fee (I don’t eat cheese).
only 6 glasses of wine. maybe it’s time to retire

Awww, poor luv! I used to drink ridiculous amounts of alcohol ….until I became pregnant. Then I stopped-cold turkey. Nowdays,on the rare occasion I drink alcohol, I seriously can’t have any more than 2 standard drinks! Just 2 is enough to make me feel very sleepy! Plus I couldn’t handle the demands of my 2 year old with a hangover O.o
My hangover tips are:
Don’t drink on an empty stomach! have something to eat before embarking on a drinkfest
Try to eat something before you go to bed- It’s not something you’d do every night, so it won’t really do anything negative to the waistline just for that night. I always felt better if i ate some pasta or 2 minute noodles when I got home from a big night!
Then for the day after- water, water water, and more water! Energy drinks too-I suggest drinking a gatorade or something before you go to bed, and having one on hand for when you wake up too! I used to do this, and it helped.
I once tried the “hair of the dog” thing, but it made me feel like utter crap, so I’ve never really understood that one! Your body is very dehydrated when hungover, so more alcohol could only do more harm.
Fried food, yes!
there be my humble tips anyhoo
The best thing I know for hangovers is sleep and water (yes, even if you puke it). If you can’t eat, that’s okay. It’ll get there. Just try to remember that you’re not actually going to die.
Something you might try is preventative medicine. One of the best combos I’ve heard of/done is to take a multivitamin before you get down to drinking and to drink some Gatorade or other sports drink before you go to bed. That’ll help balance out the weirdness in your body. And if you can drink a glass of water between drinks, that works, too.
I had to quit drinking so much, myself. But sometimes I’ll drink two beers and be tipsy then turn around a differet time and have 10 beers and be sober. Not sure what that’s about.
Feel better!
The trick to not getting hangovers is to not get sober!
Just kidding though.
We drink those packets of Emergen-c for the hangovers. I also try to stay super hydrated while I’m drinking.
Sober karaoke is almost impossible! I hate hangovers. I have definitely had the shower experience described. Wine hangovers seem to be the worst sometimes!
Ughh I had an experience like you described a few weeks ago – I’m still not 100% sure if it was a hangover or stomach flu with bad lining. I used to drink about every weekend, sometimes twice a weekend, and I had only had like…four drinks? Cran & vodka. I puked that night, I puked the next morning, I couldn’t even keep water and toast down, I was freaking miserable until like 5 o’clock that night. And you know what’s funny? My 21st is later this week and I’m afraid to drink much at all for fear of a repeat performance!
The only thing that helped the day after was going back to bed right after eating, I think it helped me keep it down. Lots of water, vitamins, don’t get dehydrated the night before, pretty much what everyone else said. I like to take 2 ibuprofen, eat a piece of toast, and drink a big glass of water before I go to bed.
ha ha ha only 6 drinks, you sound like me! What is happening to us, wah!? We could drink HOW MANY bottles of pink, then scrumpy!? Seasoned drinkers turned weak. I think it is the you missing in my life that is doing it to me! If I was surrounded by fabulosity I’m sure there would be no end to my tolerance, much like days gone by! I try to drink a soda water between drinks these days. fuck we are getting old.
