PostHeaderIcon Mascara Reviews

Why are the best products always discontinued?!..

My eyelashes are my best feature. Like I mentioned in my below post, it makes you feel better to enhance your best features. For me this equals lashings of mascara.

I’ve tried so many different brands all claiming so many different outcomes. Lengthening, curling, separating, thickening…

The best I have found to date is L’oreal Volume Shocking
This has a white base coat then a black comb opposed to a wand which suits me perfectly. Unfortunately, I can’t find it anywhere anymore. Shop assistants keep trying to sell me this instead.

It doesn’t have the same effect.

I have been using Maybelline Collosal Volume as a second best replacement. This works O K.

Yesterday I bought L’oreal Telescopic Explosion mascara. This mascara has a ball shaped head which means you apply the mascara to sections and it’s a lot more time consuming then a few swipes from a regular wand. It does make it easier to get into the corners and hard to reach areas though. The stick of the mascara flexes with your lashes too. I don’t find this of that much help. Tommorrow when I apply my make up I think I will use my usual Collosal and just use this Telescopic Explosion on the corners.

My review of trying to find a Volume Shocking replacement:

  • Napolean Peepshow. Disaster. Clumpy mess which took forever to dry.
  • L’Oreal Telescopic. O K. This is similar to the explosion with the flexing wand.
  • L’Oreal HIP. This mascara contains collagin. It did make my lashes appear thicker but I like the long seperated look.
  • L’Oreal Panoramic Curl. I curl my lashes anyway. This did sperate my lashes though and make my eyes appear more open, it was quite cute.
  • Maybelline great lash. I only tried this because it was a give-away. Easy to put on and wash off but didn’t add anything extra to my lashes.

Tips:

  • Apply with a zig zag pattern. This separates the lashes out.
  • Wriggle the brush right down to the base of the lashes.
  • Close your eye and place the wand on top of the lashes at the base and pull through. This will remove clumps.
  • It’s OK to mix mascaras
  • Play with colours
  • Curl. Use your hairdryer to heat the curler a little. You can curl before or after you’ve applied mascara I like to do it after (but make sure mascara is dry first). You don’t want to pull out one of your eyelashes or cut them off so be careful with this. You can always use your fingers to push the lashes up and hold for a few seconds.
  • Swipe right to the top and keep looking down so to not end up with any on your eyelid.

I haven’t tried many of the higher end brands because of the price. If you have any recommendations please share    xo

All this kitteh needs to do is bat eyelashes

I didn’d think that Telescopic Explosion would work any better than a normal brush – and that it would be more time consuming and annoying!

i adore Diorshow by Christian Dior. It’s been my favourite thing in the entire world for years now. Except now that i’m close to finishing it, it’s getting all clumpy and looking gross so I have to buy a new one come pay day.

There’s this new YSL mascara coming out soon but i forget the name/release date. it sounds awesome thou.

    have you seen this: http://www.primped.com.au/beauty_duty/comments/part_2_ten_mascaras_worth_writing_about/

Ooh thanks for the L’Oreal HIP review! I WILL give this a go once I find it. I dont want separation: I want volume and I want bucketloads of it. The only one that came close was Napoleon Peepshow. I would have loved it except the only reason why it was giving the illusion of volume was because of the clumps -__-

I agree with Sarah Hannah though concerning Diorshow. I first tried it when they were giving free samples at David Jones couple of years ago.

I use Great Lash mascara. It’s okay but not super! Unfortunately I have very little to offer here haha. Good luck. I need to find my own perfect mascara before I give advice lol.

  • Yay mascara, I love it! Aw, that’s a bummer about the L’oreal ‘Volume Shocking’ one – I’d wanted to try that one for ages! My favourite is Lancome’s ‘Hypnose’ mascara, it’s definitely exy, which is why I haven’t bought it in a while, but gosh does it make your lashes look luscious..

They discontinued Volume Shocking from L’Oreal. That’s a surprise! It’s bit like Revlon discontinuing their Skinlights illuminator! Why do they do this? *sigh*

argh! mascara issues definately… i bought some maybelline crap and it was so hard to take off! some eyelashes were lost dammit leading to me throwing it out after 2 weeks ha ha. someone else has told me bout the dior one too xoxo

I found the Volume Shocking one a bit clumpy on me…but I really want to try the Double Extend one. I hate how you can’t try it in store!
