5kgs

I was inspired to write about this after reading Scribbles blog.
How am I going to lose 5kgs… Well. I will up my exercise and down my calories, basically.
I have some rather naughty eating habits (think coke zero and chocolate every day) I’m going to try work the 80/20 rule of eating as healthy as possible 80% of the time and indulging only 20% of the time.
That’s not every day ha put down the coke and chocolate haha.
I hope to have reached my goal by mid May!
I have no idea how much weight I would lose just by dropping the coke and chocolate.. Probably quite a bit (over a year) actually.. I’d rather not know
My exercise plan is to make it to the gym four times a week. At the gym my work out will always be mixed up but will include weights, cardio and stretching.
I also have roller derby training two times a week. This doesn’t seem to help me lose weight though
My diet plan is simple:
- Gluten free. Lactose free.
- Fill up on vegetables
- Avoid trans fats and saturated fats
- Eat lean protein
- Watch out for salt. Watch out for sugars/artificial sweeteners
- Don’t snack mindlessly because of emotion. Eat when hungry!
Other goals
- Don’t snooze my alarm
- Relieve stress
- Get more sleep
- Make more time to accomplish whats really important
Take better care of myself x
Exercise
I can’t speak highly enough about exercising!
I’m so eager and excited to start studying fitness next week eee NEXT WEEK. I’ll be closer toward working within an industry I’m passionate about. I’ll be closer to gaining a qualification for a job I’d enjoy. Some people actually do you know… enjoy their jobs… wow
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll know I have ongoing health problems. These leave me feeling so low in energy think eyes twitching, joints and muscles aching, zombie brain, headaches, cold, depressed, moody, feeling like I could sleep for days but always waking up exhausted and never refreshed. Not to mention all the other symptoms that result from my actual health problem this chronic fatigue is only a side effect.
Anyway, where am I going with this whinging
what I’m trying to spit out is how much better I feel after exercising. I feel like myself. The colour will come back into my face and I wont look dead behind my eyes, all that just from one hours exercise. It’s more then “runners high” the difference is really amazing. I really believe exercising can change and often save someone’s life.
I think the hardest part about exercising is getting started. I find it hard to get started and get to the gym after a full day of work sucking my will to live. But, once I’m there, I never regret it.
I’m making my work outs my number one priority from now in.
My new exercise schedule will include:
- Monday – roller derby training then stretching exercise from home
- Tuesday – free skate and stretching
- Wednesday – gym.
- Thursday – gym.
- Friday – weights and then roller derby training. I think weights before roller derby training will be beneficial, I’m usually 3/4 dead after working all week on Friday evening a weight session from 5 – 6 will bring me back to life. I want to go into training ready I haven’t seen my skating improve for a while and I’m determined to make a team and compete this year
- Saturday – free skate and gym.
- Sunday – rest!
How about you? Have you broken a sweat today? X

U60kgs
One new years resolution ACHIEVED!
It’s not just this years resolution either.. I’ve wanted to lose weight for a long, long time. I think that’s been a resolution since I turned 22 (when I started putting it on). I used to aim for 53kgs which is what I did weigh once upon a time, but at 170cm tall my entire body shape has changed since then and that’s no longer achievable, or desirable.. To keep it at a round figure I chose under 60kgs.
I’m happy to say I’ve now achieved that
you go girl…
Not just in these last 7 days of course haha I’ve been working at it since October. In total I’ve lost 12kgs
My weight is still coming down each week without really any effort from me?! I think this is the result of my new healthy habits. So, if you look at my “photos” page, not only do I no longer have blonde hair (it’s chocolate brown) but half those clothes I’m wearing then don’t fit me now! Yay.
I’ll have to take down those photos and put up more recent ones. It’s on the list of things to do…
So, how did I do it? Firstly, I was feeling overwhelmed by the massive amount of weight I had to lose and negative because I was sick a lot of the time. I was very disheartened and miserable! These are harsh words but I did actually feel disgusted and repulsed by myself <- no one should ever feel like this!!!
I joined Jenny Craig because I was stuck in a cycle of lose a little weight then put it straight back on again. A yo-yoing cycle. Even when I lost a little that would be 2 or 3kgs only, nothing to really call a substantial loss. I blamed my health problems for my weight. Which is true it definitely doesn’t help but it’s something that is not going to be resolved something I have to live with so I can’t let that hold me back. I’d like to say I’m a healthy and athletic girl, so being overweight was stopping me from doing what makes me happy.
My whole outlook has changed, my persona has changed and most importantly my attitude has changed. Not just because I can fit into skinny jeans now but because of the journey. This all sounds so cheesy but if you’ve experienced it before I’m not over exaggerating when I say weight loss is life changing!
On Jenny Craig I saw results fast. I guess this shows how bad my habits were before hahaha. The first week I lost 4kgs! Jenny Craig had me eating six times a day and it really got my metabolism working. A few more weeks on Jenny Craig with not much more change and then I quit. I’m not a quitter but I knew I could do it on my own and I had a lot of work commitments coming up where I wouldn’t be able to eat the JC food I’d have to eat out with clients. I had other events lined up too I wasn’t going to be possible to stick with the programme. It’s not cheap either. But it taught me good habits and it definitely works if you stick to it!!!!!
I’ve always loved to exercise. I often walk home which is a two hour (fast paced) walk. I am training to play roller derby three times a week, sometimes more. I go to the gym and I do a lot of cardio then once I started seeing weight drop off I added weights to my routine. I mix up my gym routine constantly, each week, I never go to the gym do the same work out then leave. Your body needs variation. In summary I break a sweat every day. I push myself and I work at it. This doesn’t come naturally!
Diet advice would be:
- Everything in moderation. I do eat a lot of chocolate but I’d rather have a small freddo frog then a dairy milk bar.
- Two litres of water a day.
- Eat unlimited vegies! Try adding a garden salad to your lunch and dinner.
- Fruit is limited contrary to what most people believe. I wouldn’t eat more then four servings of fruit a day if you’re wanting to lose weight.
- Try and work it out in your head so you have a couple of servings of dairy (trim coffee, yoghurt, low fat cheese) grains (breads, cereals) fruit then unlimited vegies each day. Eat a range of foods.
- Eat breakfast
- Alcohol is a killer! Not just for the calories but because it’s a depressant and I mentioned before how important attitude is. Alcohol killed me, this is one of the main reasons I put on weight to start with. Limit to four drinks per week or cut it out completely if you can.
- Learn portion sizes!
- Smoothies and juices are good if you don’t like the taste of fruit and vegies
- Positive thinking
- Be good to yourself
Exercise advice would be:
- It all counts!
- Take the stairs.. get off the bus a few stops earlier.. During ad breaks if your watching TV most definitely use the time to do sit ups/push ups/lunges/squats/tricep dips, anything that comes to mind.
- Find an activity you enjoy. There’s so many options like pole dancing, yoga, hula hooping, roller skating, martial arts.
- Cardio will make you a smaller version of yourself and weights will tone and change your body shape
- Listen to music that gets you in the mood
- Take a friend
- Make the time, do it for yourself, turn this into part of your lifestyle
- Invest in a trainer if only for a couple of sessions to learn how you should be exercising
Some healthy snack ideas:
- Crackers with cottage cheese and tomato
- Celery or carrot sticks with salsa or hummus
- Cherry tomatoes
- Garden salad
- Jelly
- Low fat yoghurt
- Diet coke. I do love coke I can’t deny it. I don’t think it’s too bad (diet-wise) to drink one can every other day. I do. I wont stop. You’ve got to have at least one vice.. *shrugs*
- Coffee/tea
- Protein bars. Be careful with these though some are meal replacements, for body builders! Check the labels and ask the staff for help if your not sure.
- Fruit
- Toast (wholegrain bread) with peanut butter.
- Nuts
- Air popped popcorn
- Soup
- Sushi
I think snacking is good for you.
Don’t take this advise too seriously! If anyone has anything else to add I’d love to hear it
Nine more resolutions to go

Skate or Die

I am getting new skates this Sunday! Not “new” really the girl who currently owns them is leaving to Japan, they are second hand.. I’m doing a swap around, swapping mine with another girls and the girl whose going to Japan I’m going to have hers, and her helmet. About time I have my own stuff!
I think I’ll keep the wheels/bearings and everything as they are, her skates are better then mine. Woo! And they fit. Woo! Haha CAN’T WAIT. I’ve been skating on the slowest skates and then skates that are too small it’s been agony.
I want to put more effort in at training and more effort in at the gym, which will pay off at training, just more in general. My skating has got to get better. I want to skills test soon and be put into a team we have either Smash Malice or Brutal Pageant here. I have a long way to go!
I haven’t been skating very long but I’m loving it and I’ve just had a change in attitude
BRING ON SUNDAY. I have my usual fresh meat training then a dress rehersal for the upcoming bout (19th this month) where I’ll be officialing. How fun. Very much looking forward to this
xo
What are you looking forward to at the moment?
Circus school
I’ve never been big on gymnastics but I’ve always wished I was a natural. I will keep learning at my own pace even if I don’t pick up the skills as fast as some others. I’ve seen performers of all sizes and I’ve seen performers, like myself, who aren’t as graceful. Ya gotta work with what you can…
Pole Fitness
Harder then it looks!
Miss Poledance Australia Felix again, world pole 2009 AMAZING! the art of pole jamilla deville
These performers have incredible grace, strength and flexibility. Of course I want my own pole! Pole fitness is addictive. Ive tried a few classes and LOVED it. Is much more fun then jogging on a treadmill in the gym.. You can feel the work in your muscles the next day. It takes time and practice but there are classes in Wellington and Auckland.

Roller Derby
My new obsession..
I knew about roller derby before now but assumed you needed to know how to skate to join. I didn’t really have the time and the Auckland league seemed a bit more intimidating. Now in Wellington Roller Derby girls here are a bit fresher and focusing on freshmeat, that is training new girls up to skill.
Curiosity got the better of me
I went for a practice skate on Saturday then actual training on Sunday. OBSESSED! This is just about the most fun you can have. I definitely intend to keep it up!!!
For now I am learning the skills needed to eventually play the sport. I’m loving every moment of it and every bruise. This is just what I’ve been looking for. Check out the youtube clips of Auckland Pirate City Rollers
I can’t wait for my next training on Tuesday. While I’m not working I have plenty of time to get in extra training too!!!!!
