I am going to lose 5kgs.
untitled

I was inspired to write about this after reading Scribbles blog.

How am I going to lose 5kgs… Well. I will up my exercise and down my calories, basically.

I have some rather naughty eating habits (think coke zero and chocolate every day) I’m going to try work the 80/20 rule of eating as healthy as possible 80% of the time and indulging only 20% of the time.

That’s not every day ha put down the coke and chocolate haha.

I hope to have reached my goal by mid May!

I have no idea how much weight I would lose just by dropping the coke and chocolate.. Probably quite a bit (over a year) actually.. I’d rather not know

My exercise plan is to make it to the gym four times a week. At the gym my work out will always be mixed up but will include weights, cardio and stretching.

I also have roller derby training two times a week. This doesn’t seem to help me lose weight though

My diet plan is simple:

  • Gluten free. Lactose free.
  • Fill up on vegetables
  • Avoid trans fats and saturated fats
  • Eat lean protein
  • Watch out for salt. Watch out for sugars/artificial sweeteners
  • Don’t snack mindlessly because of emotion. Eat when hungry!

Other goals

  • Don’t snooze my alarm
  • Relieve stress
  • Get more sleep
  • Make more time to accomplish whats really important

Take better care of myself   x

I am starting to put a plan into action so I can (eventually) end up exactly where I want to be. I don’t know why I haven’t done this sooner.. Or, I know why, it’s HARD!

Never mind that I’m doing it NOW.

I saw a Dietician I while back who made a diet plan for me. She basically cut out fructose, lactose and gluten. Among some other additives and some other small things. Sounds difficult but she works on the same street as me and because I’m a bit lazy and like to buy my lunch, this fabulous dietician was able to tell me what cafes around where we work sell the food that wont make me sick. With this plan it doesn’t even take much thought. I’m surprised how easy I’m finding it! I know it will soon become second nature. Going out to dinner with friends isn’t as easy but I’m finding ways around it :-) I’m lucky there are a lot of health cafes around work so I can go out for lunches. Everyone wants to be healthy, I love seeing salad bars full of customers and McDonalds empty :-)

Because of this change of diet/lifestyle my health has improved dramatically! I felt like a different person within 3 days! 3 days I’ve seen gastro specialists in the past I’ve seen so many doctors but I guess when it’s something you can’t “cure” they aren’t interested. They fucked me around I thought this would last forever. Beyond ecstatic! I’ll never be able to eat a regular joe blogs diet, but on the positive side, I will always be fit and healthy.

I’d recommend seeing a Dietician and following their advice as best you can to anyone whose suffering from similar health issues to what I had.

Success

As you can tell from my last two posts I’ve had a week off work. I’ve had some time to think. I asked myself the question “what is my true purpose in life”, I made lists, talked with friends and family, researched study – wages – challenge – demand – competition and I kept coming back to the answer I’ve always known. Fitness. It’s my true passion. It’s how I want to spend my time and energy. I don’t want to be a corporate slave any more!

I’ve been applying for sales roles within gyms because I an a gym bunnie, I always have been, and I love working with customers. I don’t, however, have sales experience. I also get nervous about working in a commission based role. I desperately wanted someone to take a chance on me though. Unfortunately, no one has, job hunting is hard and it’s a hard time right now in the early new year. I got a second interview at one gym and one question the manager asked me was “if you could have any role within this gym which would you like? Does it have to be sales?” I said yeah sales thinking that was the answer they wanted that I was an enthusiastic salesperson. But my true answer would have been a personal trainer role. I just never thought it possible to go back to uni fulltime for 3 years to become qualified, how could I afford that?!

I’ve since found a National Certificate in Fitness that can be completed in 1 year by correspondence. I want this more then anything!!!!!!!!!!

Seeing as my current job is sucking my will to live, I think I will quit soon. I have to quit soon for my health and my sanity! If I can be accepted into this course and can start studying (although it’s correspondence you do attend tutorials so you can’t enrol at any time there are intakes) I will focus everything I have on doing well. Once completed that’s all you need to start applying for personal training jobs. Only 1 year, 10 hours a week, how easy I had no idea. Of course just because you have a certificate doesn’t guarantee you a job. Of course there will be competition who went the long way around and went to uni who did work experience or whatever kids do these days. But I have life experience and transferrable skills and I trust in my abilities that I will prove successful.

Excited much :-) :-) :-) wish me luck

My short term goal: put a plan into action to get out of this hell hole some people call the work place
My long term goal: become a successful personal trainer

Hows everyone out in blogland today xXx

One new years resolution ACHIEVED!

It’s not just this years resolution either.. I’ve wanted to lose weight for a long, long time. I think that’s been a resolution since I turned 22 (when I started putting it on). I used to aim for 53kgs which is what I did weigh once upon a time, but at 170cm tall my entire body shape has changed since then and that’s no longer achievable, or desirable.. To keep it at a round figure I chose under 60kgs.

I’m happy to say I’ve now achieved that :-D you go girl

Not just in these last 7 days of course haha I’ve been working at it since October. In total I’ve lost 12kgs

My weight is still coming down each week without really any effort from me?! I think this is the result of my new healthy habits. So, if you look at my “photos” page, not only do I no longer have blonde hair (it’s chocolate brown) but half those clothes I’m wearing then don’t fit me now! Yay.

I’ll have to take down those photos and put up more recent ones. It’s on the list of things to do…

So, how did I do it? Firstly, I was feeling overwhelmed by the massive amount of weight I had to lose and negative because I was sick a lot of the time. I was very disheartened and miserable! These are harsh words but I did actually feel disgusted and repulsed by myself <- no one should ever feel like this!!!

I joined Jenny Craig because I was stuck in a cycle of lose a little weight then put it straight back on again. A yo-yoing cycle. Even when I lost a little that would be 2 or 3kgs only, nothing to really call a substantial loss. I blamed my health problems for my weight. Which is true it definitely doesn’t help but it’s something that is not going to be resolved something I have to live with so I can’t let that hold me back. I’d like to say I’m a healthy and athletic girl, so being overweight was stopping me from doing what makes me happy.

My whole outlook has changed, my persona has changed and most importantly my attitude has changed. Not just because I can fit into skinny jeans now but because of the journey. This all sounds so cheesy but if you’ve experienced it before I’m not over exaggerating when I say weight loss is life changing!

On Jenny Craig I saw results fast. I guess this shows how bad my habits were before hahaha. The first week I lost 4kgs! Jenny Craig had me eating six times a day and it really got my metabolism working. A few more weeks on Jenny Craig with not much more change and then I quit. I’m not a quitter but I knew I could do it on my own and I had a lot of work commitments coming up where I wouldn’t be able to eat the JC food I’d have to eat out with clients.  I had other events lined up too I wasn’t going to be possible to stick with the programme. It’s not cheap either. But it taught me good habits and it definitely works if you stick to it!!!!!

I’ve always loved to exercise. I often walk home which is a two hour (fast paced) walk. I am training to play roller derby three times a week, sometimes more. I go to the gym and I do a lot of cardio then once I started seeing weight drop off I added weights to my routine. I mix up my gym routine constantly, each week, I never go to the gym do the same work out then leave. Your body needs variation. In summary I break a sweat every day. I push myself and I work at it. This doesn’t come naturally!

Diet advice would be:

  • Everything in moderation. I do eat a lot of chocolate but I’d rather have a small freddo frog then a dairy milk bar.
  • Two litres of water a day.
  • Eat unlimited vegies! Try adding a garden salad to your lunch and dinner.
  • Fruit is limited contrary to what most people believe. I wouldn’t eat more then four servings of fruit a day if you’re wanting to lose weight.
  • Try and work it out in your head so you have a couple of servings of dairy (trim coffee, yoghurt, low fat cheese) grains (breads, cereals) fruit then unlimited vegies each day. Eat a range of foods.
  • Eat breakfast
  • Alcohol is a killer! Not just for the calories but because it’s a depressant and I mentioned before how important attitude is. Alcohol killed me, this is one of the main reasons I put on weight to start with. Limit to four drinks per week or cut it out completely if you can.
  • Learn portion sizes!
  • Smoothies and juices are good if you don’t like the taste of fruit and vegies
  • Positive thinking
  • Be good to yourself

Exercise advice would be:

  • It all counts!
  • Take the stairs.. get off the bus a few stops earlier.. During ad breaks if your watching TV most definitely use the time to do sit ups/push ups/lunges/squats/tricep dips, anything that comes to mind.
  • Find an activity you enjoy. There’s so many options like pole dancing, yoga, hula hooping, roller skating, martial arts.
  • Cardio will make you a smaller version of yourself and weights will tone and change your body shape
  • Listen to music that gets you in the mood
  • Take a friend
  • Make the time, do it for yourself, turn this into part of your lifestyle
  • Invest in a trainer if only for a couple of sessions to learn how you should be exercising

Some healthy snack ideas:

  • Crackers with cottage cheese and tomato
  • Celery or carrot sticks with salsa or hummus
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Garden salad
  • Jelly
  • Low fat yoghurt
  • Diet coke. I do love coke I can’t deny it. I don’t think it’s too bad (diet-wise) to drink one can every other day. I do. I wont stop. You’ve got to have at least one vice.. *shrugs*
  • Coffee/tea
  • Protein bars. Be careful with these though some are meal replacements, for body builders! Check the labels and ask the staff for help if your not sure.
  • Fruit
  • Toast (wholegrain bread) with peanut butter.
  • Nuts
  • Air popped popcorn
  • Soup
  • Sushi

I think snacking is good for you.

Don’t take this advise too seriously! If anyone has anything else to add I’d love to hear it

Nine more resolutions to go

xo

PostHeaderIcon Where to draw the line?

I’ve touched on this in my first ever blog entry “VEGAN”.
The question I’m asking, where to draw the line, is one I’ve answered for myself but is very individual and hard to defend.

Is someone a hypocrite if they live a vegan lifestyle but eat honey? What if they have no choice but to occasionally eat dairy or wear wool. I know there is always “choice” but where do you draw the line. If animal testing resulted in a cure for AIDS would you still be against it, because it IS testing on our animal friends…

I understand there is no such thing as a perfect vegan and that’s not that I’m talking about. I’m taking about living in a predominately non vegan world, letting your conscious guide you, sticking to your guns and being happy with the balance.

All words are ambiguous, to try and not steer off topic too much.. This is just a friendly disclaimer diehard vegans vs the rest of the world please the only persons behaviour you can control is your own, if someone labels themselves “vegan” but does aerial silk dance there is no need to burn them at the stake. In my experience I get tension from non vegans and tension from diehard vegans.
No judgement *peace*
What has bought this topic to my attention is me recently relaxing my own diet. My job require a lot of networking and lunches/dinners out with clients and co-workers. It is heavily based on relationships. So, there are always veg options but rarely vegan options. I have no problem explaining I’m vegetarian and no one has had a problem catering to that. But vegan, on the other hand. People have so many questions and opinions and finding a place to eat is near impossible. In an ideal world everyone would respect everyone else’s decisions and there would be available options. But today, I cannot afford to lose business in order to avoid milk products!

I bought new skates on Sunday which are also made of leather. FTW

No one needs to explain themselves to anyone else. But because of the tension I mentioned earlier I thought I would bring up a few points to consider.

How do you feel about:

  • Insects? If you hold a flame near insects they will recoil right?
  • Plants?
  • Bacteria?
  • Intelligence? Do you think the slaughter of animals to eat can be justified because they are less intelligent. Why is it OK to kill an adult pig but not an infant child, the pig is more intelligent then the child.
  • Humans are on top of the food chain? The animals would do the same to us? I don’t know about that, humans don’t eat lions, tigers, bears, sharks and large carnivores. Mainly cows, chickens, lamb, turkey, pigs all omnivores. So no, they wouldn’t do the same to us.
  • Pets?
  • Health?
  • Economy?
  • Religion?
  • Taste?

There is so much to think about! You might be surprised to learn nearly everything you see in front of you could be traced back to animal exploitation.

I know my actions impact the world and I am happy with the balance I have and content with where I draw the line. How about you?!

Now I’m no domestic goddess.  Far from it! I can barely toast bread.. BUT, I plan to change all this.  I’m moving house on Saturday to a cute one bedroom flat with my boyfriend and his cats.  I will have the kitchen to myself (currently staying with my boyfriend at his flat full of boys).  I plan to make magic happen  :-D

I’ve been inspired by a friend Charmaine Turquiose who posts delicious looking photos of her baking on her facebook page.  Mmm *licks lips*.  I’ve also been inspired by Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World, see link in my other blogs.  I need this book in my life I am going to order it as soon as I can afford to do so.

All this and the fact cupcakes and tea parties are FABULOUS

PostHeaderIcon VEGAN

I recently made the life style change to go vegan, cruelty free, about two months ago now… I haven’t looked back!

I’ve been given a lot of grief by people who don’t understand, so thought I’d share some information so you can make your own educated decisions.  I think everyone should be educated about vegan and vegetarian diets in schools.  This isn’t just for the animals but the earth and the people.  Everyone should know the consequences of their actions

Some of the things people have said to me when they have found out I’m now vegan are just like this blonde actress in the clip below.  It’s cheesy and long (there is more still after the credits) but I’ve been researching a lot and so far this is the clip which address the most issues.  It is by PETA who can be extreme and I don’t trust PETA myself but this was the best clip so far.  Share your own with me

I would never preach or tell anyone what to do I just want to answer questions.  This is my personal choice and I feel good about it.  I believe in it.  There is always the debate of where do you draw the line? For example; honey, I eat it, I have no argument there.  Flyspray yes I’ll spray fly spray gosh some people just want to argue asking me that.  It’s all personal choice.  I hope this opens your mind

I also have all my wool and leather shoes/bags/clothes etc to give away…….
